Abstract

From Wen Tingyun’s associations with Cui Xian, Li Yuan, Prince of the Bo Hai Kingdom and the crown Prince Zhuang Ke, and being caned by his relative in his youth, the article examines different versions of Wen Tingyun’s birth year, which the author believes to be flawed and thus cannot be established. The purpose of the article is to provide a new direction of passive investigation to clarify the confusion of the old versions.
