Abstract

Gao Wuyi (告武夷) is among the most academically rewarding documents of the Jiudian (九店) bamboo strips discovered in Eastern Zhou tombs 56 at Jiudian, Jiangling county, Hubei. This article will compare the Qin Almanacs found at Shuihudi (睡虎地) to help explicate the missing character “hao”(□) at the beginning of the strip. I will then discuss the particular content of Gao Wuyi. By comparing it with traditionally transmitted texts, I will examine the personal status of Lord Wuyi (武夷君), by examining other unearthed materials, I will provide new readings for a number of terms: niebi (聶幣), fangliang (芳糧), and liangshu (量贖). Relying on pre-Qin grammar, I will examine the subjects of the terms qinü (妻女) and mou (某). A translation into modern Chinese of Gao Wuyi is appended at the end of the article.
