Abstract

While reading the preface of Ming-ju-hsüeh-an, many people will soon be baffled by a paragraph describing a serious quarrel between Huang Tzung-hsi and his friend Yün Chung-sheng about a book compiled by Yün entitled, Liu-Tzu chieh-yao. The book is, in fact, not extant. However, this article try to demonstrate, that the appearance of this text reflects a major transition in the intellectual world of the early Ch'ing period.
