本文嘗試從圖像學(iconology)的觀點,並且以霍布斯賦予「利維坦」(Leviathan)手執寶劍的特殊造型為出發點,來重新反思霍布斯在有關國家或社會契約論等議題上的若干關鍵構想。除此之外,本文將藉此進一步耙梳出像是國家、主權、權力、法律、臣民、乃至於正義以及統治的正當性等一連串相關的概念,它們在整個歐洲政治與法律思想的進展上,究竟曾經有過什麼樣特殊的意涵與變化。
This article reflects Hobbes’ thoughts on state and social contract from viewpoints of iconology and explores the implications of Leviathan figure that has a sword in hand. In addition, this article will discuss the following concepts: state, sovereignty, power, law, subject, justice and governance legitimacy and analyze their specific meanings in the European political and legal context.
