梁元禎為普林斯頓大學（Princeton University）博士，曾任職於國立臺灣大學以及美國麻州韋頓大學（Wheaton College）。主要從事地中海歷史研究，關注西班牙帝國，基督徒、穆斯林與猶太教徒間的關係，以及前近代伊斯蘭社會。他目前正考察西班牙人如何透過各種感官經驗理解北非，並由此認識論出發，探究史學研究中主體（subjectivity）與客體（objectivity）的關係。他曾出版專書Family and Empire: The Fernández de Córdoba and the Spanish Realm (University of Pennsylvania Press)，並曾共同主編三本論文集，其中包括 Authority and Spectacle in Medieval and Early Modern Europe: Essays in Honor of Teofilo F. Ruiz (Routledge)。他是西班牙北非研究計畫（Spain-North Africa Project）的創辦人以及韋頓大學跨學科人文研究的共同創辦者（Wheaton Institute for the Interdisciplinary Humanities）。同時也是地中海研究亞洲聯盟（Asian Federation of Mediterranean Studies Institutes）、學術期刊《全球地中海》（The Medieval Globe）的創辦委員會成員。
