Papers from the Fourth International Conference on Sinology: Change and Continuity in Early Modern China

Introduction

Cite

Reforms in the Tang and Song dynasties have long been perceived as the birth of the modern era in China, and many still exert influences even till today.  It is always imperative to name those important changes, so to better understand our past and figure out the right path for the future.  Both getting rid of prolonged problems and finding new and more effective solutions have never been easy, but isn’t this exactly where history should play a role in our society?  The papers collected discuss whether there have been reforms and changes in modern China in areas of politics, ideologies, society, educational and examination system, institutions, laws and economics, so to hopefully name the direction for future sinology studies.
