本書目的在明瞭安陽出土青銅器的金相組之，進而對殷商青銅器的主要化學成分、鑄造條件和機械性質加以認識。中央研究院歷史語言研究所於1935年春 第十二次殷虛發掘時，在侯家莊西北岡1004大墓南墓道底層，發現有大量銅盔、銅矛及銅戈，但沒有一件是全部完整的，後經復原稍具形體的僅有二十餘件，本 文以不堪復原的碎片為試驗材料。
