This book comprises a main part and a substantial appendix. The main part contains two types of annotated lists of successful candidates of metropolitan examinations and records of jinshi from fourteen different tests. A brief biography is provided for each of the jinshi verified by the author. The appendix contains a variety of examination documents closely related to jinshi, including records of successful candidates of provincial examinations, qualified scholars studying at the Directorate of Education, and previously overlooked materials. An introduction opens the main volume to discuss regulations, characteristics, changes and influence of the Yuan examination system, and also provides critical analyses of some documents.
