This year marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of History and Philology (IHP), Academia Sinica. In celebration of the occasion, this book was specially compiled through our meticulous selection from IHP’s official dossier important documents and scholarly letters. We hope to not only commemorate our predecessors but also to inspire thoughts on the essence of history.
Structurally, this compilation comprises four parts: important events, scholarly letters, the ups and downs (sour, sweet, bitter and spicy flavors in the academia), and photographic records. As to its collection, it is a treasure trove of 90 documents and 31 photographs of archaeological excavations and ethnographic field work dating back before 1949, supplemented with pre-1949 IHP history and timeline as well as a directory of research fellows.
