Full-Time Research Fellow Position in Taiwan Archaeology

1. Area(s) of Specialization:

Indigenous/Public Archaeology: Preference shall be given to applicants who have conducted archaeological research predominantly in Taiwan, have experience in archaeological site surveys and excavations, and have demonstrated success in advancing public archaeology and/or collaborating with indigenous peoples.

2. Rank: Assistant Research Fellow, Associate Research Fellow, or Research Fellow

(positions roughly correspond to assistant professor, associate professor, and professor at the university level in the United States)

3. Qualifications:

(1) Assistant Research Fellow: Applicants with a domestic or foreign doctorate degree recognized by the Ministry of Education; or applicants due to receive a domestic or foreign doctorate degree in related fields by October 31, 2025

(2) Associate Research Fellow: Applicants who have served as an assistant professor for at least one year or as an associate professor at a national university; a private university or independent academy registered with the Ministry of Education; a foreign university; or a foreign independent academy

(3) Research Fellow: Applicants who have served as an associate professor for at least one year or as a professor at a national university; a private university or independent academy registered with the Ministry of Education; a foreign university; or a foreign independent academy

4. Required Documents:

(1) Application form: Download and fill out the form found below listed under “Download”

(2) Complete CV and list of academic publications

(3) Photocopy of PhD diploma (applicants who have yet to receive their diploma may submit a copy of their successful dissertation defense or an official approval issued and dated by their advisor)

(4) Research statement or plan (2–3 pages)

(5) Description or related information of archaeological fieldwork experience

(6) Key representative works within the past five years (one copy of each)

a. Assistant Research Fellow: Up to three publications (if a PhD dissertation is to be used, please provide it in its entirety; and for works written in languages other than Chinese or English, please provide an abstract thereof in either Chinese or English [3,000+ characters or rough equivalent in words])

b. Associate Research Fellow and Research Fellow: Up to six publications

c. Representative works other than a PhD dissertation should be peer-reviewed; for works awaiting to be published, applicants should provide proof of acceptance as well as documentation stating that said work has passed a peer-review process.

d. For co-authored works, fill out the Collaborative Academic Publication—Statement of the Distribution of Contributions (多人合著之學術論著__個人工作內容及貢獻說明書) form

(7) Two letters of recommendation: hard copies signed and mailed to the IHP Secretariat by the recommenders

5. Deadline: April 30, 2025 (must be postmarked in Taiwan by the deadline date)

6. Applicants should prepare an application envelope containing items (1)–(6) of the above Required Documents in BOTH hard copies and electronic formats (email or a link to cloud storage), and send it before the deadline to:
