這冊報告是1970年8月至1971年七月向行政院國家科學委員會申請的研究計畫的成果。原名為南組墓葬，後因附有北組補遺的兩個墓葬，故改稱為南組墓葬附北組墓補遺。依照考古報告集的次列，仍屬於中國考古報告集之二，小屯第一本丙編，但為第三輯。

這冊報告與前兩冊報告不同處有二，其一，增加器物紋飾的拓片，由於本墓內器物的紋飾，與北組墓葬中出土器物的紋飾多不相同，故將這些拓片附在文中當作插圖，以供注意紋飾者的研究。其二，復原圖增多，特別是頭飾部分，復原圖的用意，是為便於解說頭飾在頭上的部位和方向，至於髮髻的形式，尚需進一步研究。
