中央研究院歷史語言研究所

童楷文的研究以近代中國史為主，專長於十九世紀晚期至二十世紀初期的新疆地區。他在2024年於約翰霍普金斯大學歷史學系取得博士學位。博士論文利用漢文與察合台文檔案，探討清代如何透過Musulman（今維吾爾族之前身）的強制勞動政策，強化帝國對中亞地區的治理。同時，他也關注疫病、醫療與疫苗接種的過程中的兩個面向：其一，將1912至1917年間和闐地區的一場重大鼠疫，連接到全球史脈絡中Third Plague Pandemic；其二，他的研究考察清帝國於十九世紀晚期向羅布淖爾地區的拓殖過程，並關注天花疫情對當地原住民群體造成的毀滅性影響。未來，他的研究將在此基礎上，進一步探究清代中國醫者進入新疆的歷史，以及隨之而來的中醫如何中亞在地的醫療傳統互動的問題。
