本書所擬「朝鮮壬辰倭禍史料」之名，由明史言之，即萬曆二十年壬辰出兵援韓之事，而東國史籍則稱「壬辰倭禍」。本書史料既採自東國，故是編亦當根據東國史籍所載，而題曰「朝鮮壬辰倭禍史料」。年代編輯，以朝鮮《宣祖實錄》一書為基本史料。宣祖以下，如光海君、仁祖、孝宗、顯宗、肅宗、英宗、正宗歷朝實錄，凡有涉及「壬辰倭禍」之記述，亦一一兼收並錄之。
